UPLIFT Launches First Training School on Advanced Radiotherapy in Lyon

The UPLIFT project has officially launched its training activities with the first-ever UPLIFT School on Advanced Radiotherapy, taking place from November 17 to 22, 2025, at the Centre Léon Bérard in Lyon, France.

UPLIFT is not only driving technological innovation in upright patient positioning for radiotherapy—it is also committed to shaping the next generation of leaders in cancer treatment research, clinical application, and industry. From the outset, the project offers its Doctoral Candidates a dynamic range of growth opportunities, and this first training school marks a significant milestone in that journey.

Radiotherapy is undergoing a remarkable evolution. Modern treatment approaches now include cutting-edge technologies such as proton and ion beam therapy, in-beam MRI guidance, and increasingly adaptive treatment workflows. To provide a solid foundation in this rapidly advancing field, the UPLIFT school will bring together renowned international experts for a week-long programme designed to empower our Doctoral Candidates with both scientific and professional skills.

Participants will gain a comprehensive overview of:

• Cancer biology and radiobiology fundamentals

• Radiotherapy machine technologies and treatment planning

• Patient immobilization workflows and image guidance

• Essential soft skills for success in multidisciplinary environments

One of the programme’s highlights will be a hands-on visit to the Leo Cancer Care upright positioning system installed at Centre Léon Bérard, offering participants a first-hand look at the innovative approach that lies at the heart of the UPLIFT project.

To foster collaboration and community, the school will also feature social events, including a guided walking tour through Lyon’s historic old town and a networking dinner on November 20, where UPLIFT Doctoral Candidates and Principal Investigators will exchange ideas in an informal setting.

We’re also pleased to announce that up to 50 external participants are welcome to register for the lecture programme on site, and 10 open spots available for the social dinner.
